A Memorable Canada DayJordan recently joined the Canadian military. He will serve this summer as a member of the Ceremonial Colour Guard. They trained all of May and June while red serge uniforms were sewn and altered for Canada Day celebrations. The Governor General inspected the troops on Tuesday, June 27th as they stood at attention on Parliament Hill.
It has been a very proud time for Jordan's family in British Columbia. His grandmother, aunt, sister and mother have all been enjoying the postcard-like photos in national newspapers and television news coverage. Knowing Jordan was part of the proceedings made us extremely proud to be his relatives ~ and to be Canadian.
Meanwhile, back on the left coast of Canada ... Jordan's family (Doris, Sue, Alyson and Peggy) held their annual Canada Day picnic at Burnaby's Foreshore Park on the grassy banks of the mighty Fraser River. This year's picnic was made even more special by the presence of Mae Gwyn, Mike and Jenn Danielson's new baby girl.
Although Mae Gwyn chose to sleep for the entire celebration, it was still fun having her there with her mom, dad, grandma, and grandpa who were visiting from Calgary, Alberta. Al, in his red Canada Day T-shirt, was the day's chief bbq'r. Friends Madeline, Bev and Bruce shared in the feast.
Our helium-filled balloons made their get-away just as the party was wrapping up. It was a fitting conclusion to an excellent day at the park ~ the red and white balloons with their festive red ribbons floated effortlessly into the stratosphere en route to the nearby Pacific Ocean.
