The Third of Peggy's Top 10 "Save Your Money and Skip This Event" List

#8 Skip It: Shopping at Metrotown

Unless you're a glutton for punishment and enjoy getting lost (or if you have a hand-held GPS), avoid one of North America's largest shopping malls. It's located in south Burnaby on Kingsway between Willingdon and Nelson. I have yet to meet anyone who can tell me where a particular store is located in the mall, or if it's part of the Crystal section, the Metropolis section or the Metrotown section. Sure, it's a one-stop shopping experience -- but only if you have all day to shop.

Summer Night Market

If, however, you're looking for an authentic Asian shopping experience, why not go to the Summer Night Market in Richmond. It runs from May until October, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. It's an outdoor market that offers everything from bulk kiwi fruit to inexpensive designer purses. Save having dinner until you arrive at the market; there are oodles of food stuff available at kiosks -- and everything is delicious. The market's location (12631 Vulcan Way), runs adjacent to the Fraser River, and it delights the senses -- especially on a warm and breezy summer evening.

Now I'm hungry.
