The Tenth of Peggy's Top 10 "Save Your Money and Skip This Event" List

#1 Skip It: National Hockey League

I filled my Mazda's 35-litre gas tank this morning and it cost me $50. With increased gas prices affecting everything we do, I wonder who will be able to afford luxuries like tickets to an NHL game? But, I suppose I've always wondered that. My pragmatic father use to quote salaries of lead quarterbacks in the Canadian Football League being a fraction of what an NHL player made. Where NHL games are only for the fabulously rich, the same can't be said about a CFL game. A family of four can dine at White Spot (an upscale burger joint in BC) and go to a football game on the same evening for under $100.

But, if it's a good fight you're after, look no further than your local Costco store. Today, a friend and I went to Costco on an errand for a work function. We had just entered the store and collected a sales flyer, when our attention was diverted to the customer service counter. A fist fight had broken out between two adult (male) customers -- shirts were ripped and punches were thrown.

The taller of the two men had a definite advantage over his shorter opponent. With his one arm locked around the shorter man's neck, he used the other to pummel the shorter guy's head. He eventually released his grip and the two separated, though the yelling continued. The smaller guy summoned his bravado and questioned the man's audacity, which probably wasn't the smartest thing to do. Eventually, a couple of light-weight security guards appeared and my friend and I took our leave.

fights here in Edinburgh are quite common. I think it is the fact that if you throw a stone in any direction you are sure to hit a pub.

It doesn't quite make up for the fact that I don't get to see any NHL games!!!!!
