The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Maclean's magazine article I mentioned in my last post was as gloomy as its title, "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly." The good news about the recession is that governments typically like to spend their way out and spiff up existing infrastructure (road repairs) or create new stuff (bridges). The bad news is, unless you're a skilled labourer the chances of landing a job with a bridge crew is unlikely -- unskilled labourers face the hardest challenge of finding a job. The ugly news is, it's not going to get better any time soon. The time to retrain for a recession isn't two weeks before one hits, but rather two years beforehand.

But that's the Maclean's version of the recession. The good news in our family is that Jordan found a job! Costco called him on Friday afternoon and arranged an interview for the next morning. Long story short, Jordan starts a part-time job (30 hours / week) on Wednesday. He'll be getting his exercise stocking the produce section of the oldest Costco in B.C. As an added bonus, Costco is located .3 km from the Lake City Skytrain Station. Jordan lives three minutes from the New Westminster Skytrain Station, so the entire commute from door-to-door takes 20 minutes.
