Football SeasonToday marked the second anniversary of my dad's death.
Mom and I went to Mackin Park this afternoon and sat on Dad's memorial bench. The bench has seen better days: the varnish has long-faded and lovers' initials take up most of the real estate around the plaque. The black indelible marker is no match for the words inscribed on the bronze plaque, though. "Gordon Wonderful Grant ~ Family & Friends."
It was only fitting that a football practice was underway with young men apologizing to their coaches for missing a play. It was very easy to imagine Dad sitting with us watching the strategy of the practice unfold. Maybe he was.
Mom and I went home via the Dairy Queen. We treated ourselves to a strawberry sundae. Another sign that summer can't be far away.
