Wherefore Art Thou Oh Fleeting Estrogen?

Twice in December people asked me if I was retired. The interested individuals were people I had just met; the question made me feel old. I've decided, beginning now, that I'm not going to ask people if they're retired or what they do for a living. If these questions only serve as conversation pieces, why not stick with something less likely to offend, like "nice to meet you, how do you know so-and-so?"

On the other hand, as a result of the retirement question, I've made a decision to heed my physician's advice and cut back on the amount of bad carbs and sugars I consume. I'm still five years away from the Freedom 55 Club age requirement, but apparently I look like I'm already there. It's heightened the desire to become more physically fit. Here's the plan: eliminate breads and cookies, eat more protein, eat more salads. (And maybe buy a more expensive wig.)

I also have to rethink my cycling to and from work. Much as I loved a good bike ride to the office, it's just not practical now, given my new position. I have decided, instead, to burn calories with my New Balance running shoes and the great outdoors. There's a Running Room store in Burnaby that has drop-in group runs on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings -- part of my problem is that New Westminster has too many hills to be considered a runner's paradise. I hope Burnaby has more to offer in the way of flat.

This morning I stepped on the scales and jotted down "140" on my weight calendar. I'll do this every morning from now until January 31. The goal is weight loss and body tone. My blog will be my journal. Maybe by February people will be asking me what grade I'm in!
